Keynotion’s Global Learning & Development Summit took place on 18th– 19thof October 2018 in Amsterdam. Produced by Lewis Howse, the event was held at the prestigious venue of Novotel Hotel, and welcomed speakers and delegates from a multitude of industries.

As quoted by Summit Chairwoman Elizabeth Lembke, an organization is only as good as its people, and a company is only as strong as its most engaged employees. With Global L&D Summit, Corporate Parity aimed to provide leaders with corporate training and employee motivation solutions, which would help build an excellent corporate culture and improve employee engagement.


The first day of the Summit opened with a keynote presentation on ‘DEMYSTYFYING HR ANALYTICS & STRATEGIC WORKFORCE PLANNING’ by Miguel Premoli, Former VP Talent Management PepsiCo Europe & SS Africa PepsiCo. He explored the latest trends and developments in HR analytics, the future talent needs of businesses, and strategic workforce planning.

This was followed by a panel discussion ‘ROBOTICS, AI & THE FUTURE OF LEARNING’ with Miguel Premoli, Alexandra Ulka, HR strategy & Transformation advisor at SAP, and Jef Helmink, Global L&D Specialist at ING. They discussed the use of AI and robots in L&D, their impact on employees, and ways to understand and embrace digital transformation.

Next, Anirban Bhattacharya, Director Talent Acquisition at IHS Markit gave a fruitful presentation on ‘ACQUIRING & DEVELOPING NEW TALENT’. She talked about the possibilities to increase options with a Talent Development Platform, Creating personalised/individual learning and gave recommendations on how to engage employees to create a sustainable source of talent. During an engaging panel discussion on ‘BUILDING EFFECTIVE L&D PROGRAMMES’, Thierry Bonetto (Director of Learning & Development at Danone), Alexandre Goubin (Director Continuous Improvement Centre of Excellence at LEGO) and Piyush Tewari (Founding Partner at Gamification to Learning) discussed how to successfully develop, implement and communicate an effective L&D strategy.

After lunch, Alexandre Goubin followed with a case study ‘PROMOTING SELF-DEVELOPMENT AND MASTERY: A LEGO CASE’, where he highlighted the benefits of making Learning & Development a playful experience. The day continued with an insightful presentation on ‘LEVERAGING DISCOVERY JOURNEYS & DESIGN THINKING TO FOSTER INNOVATION’ by Thierry Bonetto, in which he focused on complementing learning expeditions by design thinking. To conclude the first day, Elizabeth Lembke, Chief Talent Navigator at Transforming Talent, led a workshop dedicated to ‘FACING OUT PARADIGMS: TALENT, LEARNING AND FUTURE OF WORK’. During the following cocktail reception, guests exchanged impressions from the first day of the summit, networked and engaged in spirited discussions.


The second day opened with a keynote address by Malin Liden, VP SAP Experience at SAP. In her presentation titled ‘HOW TO BUILD AN INNOVATION CULTURE, POWERED BY DIVERSITY’ she explained how having a diverse environment supports continuous innovation and facilitates employee engagement, as well as customer loyalty.  Cathleen Merkel, Director HR & Talent at Discovery Communication spoke on ‘HOW TO SHIFT THE COMPANY CULTURE WITH THE HELP OF INTERNAL TALENT IN TIMES OF MAJOR CHANGE AND UNCERTAINTY’. She provided examples of how Discovery is creatively engaging and empowering its talents to create and drive change, break through hierarchical barriers, adopting a learning through failure approach. Additionally, Merkel emphasized  the benefits of connecting senior leadership and talent in talent development programmes.

The day continued with a series of case studies, during which Clint Kofford, Global Head of Talent Development at Johnson & Johnson, presented a case of ‘DRIVING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT CREATIVELY’. He talked about the specific ways in which J&J creatively engages its employees: running TEDx salons internally, facilitating ‘field trips’ or ‘adventures’ that drive inspiration, insight, and innovation. Finally, Markus Schwarzenböck, Siemens EVP HR Global Business Partners, spoke on ‘MANAGING A MULTI-GENERATIONAL WORK-FORCE IN A GLOBAL COMPANY’. He provided solutions on incorporationg value systems between different generations within an organization, and highlighted the importance of developing a new approach to the new generation of employees.
